Bonded polystyrene bead insulation for Washington properties
If your property is in Washington or the NE38 district or nearby Houghton-Le-Spring, Hebburn and Sunderland, it is within our Tyne and Wear coverage. It is about 6 miles south-east of Newcastle upon Tyne.
Most Washington houses built from the 1920s onwards have cavity walls, but the survey still checks each one: cavity width, debris, the condition of the brickwork and how exposed each wall is. For semi-detached and terraced homes in Washington, cavity barriers are fitted where your wall meets your neighbour's so the fill stays on your side.
Every elevation is judged on its own exposure. Tyne and Wear has a mix of moderate and more exposed sites. Hilltop, coastal and west-facing walls take the brunt of wind-driven rain, so the survey records exposure for each elevation before a material is chosen.
For regulations, in Washington filling a cavity is notifiable building work and needs a building notice or competent-person self-certification.
Funding in England
In England, ECO4 runs to 31 December 2026 and Warm Homes: Local Grant supports low-income households through councils.

What to know before you choose beads
Polystyrene is combustible, so beads are not the right choice for every building; height, use and nearby openings matter, and the system certificate sets the limits. PVC-sheathed cables in the cavity should be sleeved or kept out of contact with the beads where the certificate requires it. We check both at survey.
What is included in Washington

- Making good to the mortar colour
- Binder applied at the nozzle
