Blown mineral wool insulation for Washington properties
If your property is in Washington or the NE38 district or nearby Houghton-Le-Spring, Hebburn and Sunderland, it is within our Tyne and Wear coverage. It is about 6 miles south-east of Newcastle upon Tyne.
Most Washington houses built from the 1920s onwards have cavity walls, but the survey still checks each one: cavity width, debris, the condition of the brickwork and how exposed each wall is. If a wall in Washington is not suitable, for example because of an undiagnosed damp patch or a very exposed gable, you are told so in writing with the reason.
Every elevation is judged on its own exposure. Tyne and Wear has a mix of moderate and more exposed sites. Hilltop, coastal and west-facing walls take the brunt of wind-driven rain, so the survey records exposure for each elevation before a material is chosen.
In terms of approvals, in Washington filling a cavity is notifiable building work and needs a building notice or competent-person self-certification.
Funding in England
In England, ECO4 runs to 31 December 2026 and Warm Homes: Local Grant supports low-income households through councils.

When is it not the right choice?
Very narrow or uneven cavities, walls with lots of mortar snots and debris, and some very exposed elevations can be better suited to bonded bead, which flows around obstructions and is certified for a wider range of exposure zones in some systems. The survey says which and why.
