Existing insulation and guarantee check across West Yorkshire
We cover 19 towns in West Yorkshire, including Leeds, Bradford, Huddersfield, Wakefield, Halifax and more.
Every elevation is judged on its own exposure. West Yorkshire has a mix of moderate and more exposed sites. Hilltop, coastal and west-facing walls take the brunt of wind-driven rain, so the survey records exposure for each elevation before a material is chosen.
Buyers and sellers in West Yorkshire often book this check when a survey report or EPC raises questions about the walls. Where a West Yorkshire wall shows cold patches or damp, the survey targets those areas first rather than sampling at random.
Building Regulations in England
Filling an existing cavity wall is notifiable building work in England. Either a building notice goes to building control before the work, or the installer self-certifies it through a government-approved competent person scheme such as CIGA's CWISC scheme. The insulation used must also be suitable for the wall it goes into, which is why the survey checks construction, condition and exposure first.

How to tell if a house already has cavity insulation
Look for a regular pattern of small patched holes in the mortar joints, often about a metre apart. Check the EPC, which may say 'filled cavity'. Ask the seller for a guarantee. The reliable answer is a borescope check, because patched holes can be from a fill that was later removed and EPCs are sometimes wrong.
