Bonded polystyrene bead insulation for Aldridge properties
Our West Midlands coverage takes in Aldridge (WS9) and nearby Walsall, Sutton Coldfield and Wednesbury. It is around 9 miles north of Birmingham.
Aldridge properties with rendered or painted walls get a closer look at the outer finish, because cracked render can let rain behind it. Most Aldridge houses built from the 1920s onwards have cavity walls, but the survey still checks each one: cavity width, debris, the condition of the brickwork and how exposed each wall is.
Local weather affects which walls can be filled. The West Midlands has a mix of moderate and more exposed sites. Hilltop, coastal and west-facing walls take the brunt of wind-driven rain, so the survey records exposure for each elevation before a material is chosen.
For regulations, in Aldridge filling a cavity is notifiable building work and needs a building notice or competent-person self-certification.

Where bonded beads make sense
Beads behave a little like a liquid as they go in, so they fill narrow and irregular cavities more evenly than fibre. The binder stops them pouring out if a brick is removed later. Some certified bead systems are approved for higher driving-rain exposure than fibre systems, which is why they are common on western and coastal elevations.
