Party wall cavity insulation for Shrewsbury properties
We cover Shrewsbury and the SY1 postcode district, including nearby Wellington and Telford. Shrewsbury is one of the main towns we cover in Shropshire.
Where a Shrewsbury property has an extension or a conservatory, we check how the old and new walls meet, because that junction is often missed. Most Shrewsbury houses built from the 1920s onwards have cavity walls, but the survey still checks each one: cavity width, debris, the condition of the brickwork and how exposed each wall is.
Local weather affects which walls can be filled. Shropshire has a mix of moderate and more exposed sites. Hilltop, coastal and west-facing walls take the brunt of wind-driven rain, so the survey records exposure for each elevation before a material is chosen.
On compliance, in Shrewsbury filling a cavity is notifiable building work and needs a building notice or competent-person self-certification.

Why a party wall loses heat
Many semi-detached and terraced homes built with cavity separating walls have that cavity open to the loft. Air moves up the cavity and out at the top, a loss sometimes called the party wall bypass. Filling the cavity and sealing the top stops it.
