Blown mineral wool insulation across the Forth Valley
We cover 4 towns in the Forth Valley: Stirling, Falkirk, Alloa and Grangemouth.
Exposure matters for every cavity wall. The Forth Valley has a mix of moderate and more exposed sites. Hilltop, coastal and west-facing walls take the brunt of wind-driven rain, so the survey records exposure for each elevation before a material is chosen.
Forth Valley properties with rendered or painted walls get a closer look at the outer finish, because cracked render can let rain behind it. Most Forth Valley houses built from the 1920s onwards have cavity walls, but the survey still checks each one: cavity width, debris, the condition of the brickwork and how exposed each wall is.
Building standards in Scotland
In Scotland, work associated with thermal insulating material within a wall is listed in schedule 3 of the Building (Scotland) Regulations as work that does not need a building warrant. It must still meet the building standards, so the survey still checks that the wall and the chosen material are suitable, including exposure to wind-driven rain.
Funding in Scotland
- Home Energy Scotland is the starting point for the Home Energy Scotland Grant and Loan and for Warmer Homes Scotland, which can include cavity wall insulation.
- Many councils also run area-based schemes for insulation in particular streets or estates.
- ECO4 runs until 31 December 2026 across Great Britain, including Scotland.

When is it not the right choice?
Very narrow or uneven cavities, walls with lots of mortar snots and debris, and some very exposed elevations can be better suited to bonded bead, which flows around obstructions and is certified for a wider range of exposure zones in some systems. The survey says which and why.
What is included
- Certified mineral fibre system
- Density and drill pattern recorded
- Making good to the mortar colour
- Cavity barriers where needed
- Regulations route and guarantee named on the quote
