Cavity wall insulation for Forfar properties
We cover Forfar and the DD8 postcode district, including nearby Dundee and Arbroath. It is roughly 13 miles north of Dundee.
Most Forfar houses built from the 1920s onwards have cavity walls, but the survey still checks each one: cavity width, debris, the condition of the brickwork and how exposed each wall is. Where a Forfar property has an extension or a conservatory, we check how the old and new walls meet, because that junction is often missed.
Wind-driven rain is the first thing the surveyor weighs up. Tayside has a mix of moderate and more exposed sites. Hilltop, coastal and west-facing walls take the brunt of wind-driven rain, so the survey records exposure for each elevation before a material is chosen.
On compliance, in Forfar no building warrant is needed for insulation within a wall, but the work must meet the building standards.

Is my wall suitable for cavity wall insulation?
Most homes built from the 1920s onwards have cavity walls, but having a cavity is not the same as being suitable. The Energy Saving Trust's rule of thumb is a cavity of at least 50mm, clear of rubble, behind masonry in good condition, on a wall that is not exposed to severe driving rain or flood risk.
