Cavity insulation top-up across Dumfries and Galloway
We cover 4 towns in Dumfries and Galloway: Dumfries, Stranraer, Annan and Castle Douglas.
Before any material is chosen, exposure is checked. Parts of Dumfries and Galloway face some of the heaviest wind-driven rain in the UK, especially exposed coastal and upland sites. Here the survey is stricter: some walls suit only certain certified systems, and some should not be filled at all.
A suitable wall in Dumfries and Galloway is usually filled in a single day from outside, with drill holes made good to match the pointing. Where a Dumfries and Galloway property has an extension or a conservatory, we check how the old and new walls meet, because that junction is often missed.
Building standards in Scotland
In Scotland, work associated with thermal insulating material within a wall is listed in schedule 3 of the Building (Scotland) Regulations as work that does not need a building warrant. It must still meet the building standards, so the survey still checks that the wall and the chosen material are suitable, including exposure to wind-driven rain.
Funding in Scotland
- Home Energy Scotland is the starting point for the Home Energy Scotland Grant and Loan and for Warmer Homes Scotland, which can include cavity wall insulation.
- Many councils also run area-based schemes for insulation in particular streets or estates.
- ECO4 runs until 31 December 2026 across Great Britain, including Scotland.

How do I know if my walls need a top-up?
Cold patches on internal walls, a thermal image showing uneven heat loss, or an EPC that says 'filled cavity' when parts of the house feel colder are all signs. Extensions are a common cause: the new wall is insulated as built, but the old wall it joins may have been left partly empty.
What is included
- Borescope survey at several points
- Map of filled and empty sections
- Targeted fill with a compatible system
- Making good
- Written result with photos
