Remove and refill across Ayrshire
We cover 3 towns in Ayrshire: Kilmarnock, Ayr and Irvine.
Before any material is chosen, exposure is checked. Parts of Ayrshire face some of the heaviest wind-driven rain in the UK, especially exposed coastal and upland sites. Here the survey is stricter: some walls suit only certain certified systems, and some should not be filled at all.
We never cold-call in Ayrshire or anywhere else, and we do not work with doorstep claims companies. Where an Ayrshire wall does need work, bricks are lifted and rebuilt in matching mortar, and the cavity is checked with a camera before it is closed up.
Building standards in Scotland
In Scotland, work associated with thermal insulating material within a wall is listed in schedule 3 of the Building (Scotland) Regulations as work that does not need a building warrant. It must still meet the building standards, so the survey still checks that the wall and the chosen material are suitable, including exposure to wind-driven rain.
Sources: Scottish Government: building work not requiring a warrant (schedule 3).
Why refill at all?
Often the original problem was the wrong material for the exposure, poor installation or defects in the outer wall, not cavity insulation as such. Once the defects are fixed and the cavity is clean, a suitable certified system can usually go back in. Where the wall is too exposed for any fill, we say so and leave it empty.
