Party wall cavity insulation for Taunton properties
If your property is in Taunton or the TA1 district or nearby Bridgwater, Burnham-on-Sea and Yeovil, it is within our Somerset coverage. Taunton is one of the main towns we cover in Somerset.
Most Taunton houses built from the 1920s onwards have cavity walls, but the survey still checks each one: cavity width, debris, the condition of the brickwork and how exposed each wall is. Where a Taunton property has an extension or a conservatory, we check how the old and new walls meet, because that junction is often missed.
Wind-driven rain is the first thing the surveyor weighs up. Somerset has a mix of moderate and more exposed sites. Hilltop, coastal and west-facing walls take the brunt of wind-driven rain, so the survey records exposure for each elevation before a material is chosen.
On the rules side, in Taunton filling a cavity is notifiable building work and needs a building notice or competent-person self-certification.

Why a party wall loses heat
Many semi-detached and terraced homes built with cavity separating walls have that cavity open to the loft. Air moves up the cavity and out at the top, a loss sometimes called the party wall bypass. Filling the cavity and sealing the top stops it.
