Party wall cavity insulation for Altrincham properties
Altrincham is among the towns we cover in Greater Manchester, alongside Sale, Urmston and Stretford. It is about 8 miles south-west of Manchester.
For semi-detached and terraced homes in Altrincham, cavity barriers are fitted where your wall meets your neighbour's so the fill stays on your side. Most Altrincham houses built from the 1920s onwards have cavity walls, but the survey still checks each one: cavity width, debris, the condition of the brickwork and how exposed each wall is.
Exposure matters for every cavity wall. Greater Manchester has a mix of moderate and more exposed sites. Hilltop, coastal and west-facing walls take the brunt of wind-driven rain, so the survey records exposure for each elevation before a material is chosen.
As for paperwork, in Altrincham filling a cavity is notifiable building work and needs a building notice or competent-person self-certification.

Why a party wall loses heat
Many semi-detached and terraced homes built with cavity separating walls have that cavity open to the loft. Air moves up the cavity and out at the top, a loss sometimes called the party wall bypass. Filling the cavity and sealing the top stops it.
What is included in Altrincham
