Party wall cavity insulation for Macclesfield properties
Macclesfield is among the towns we cover in Cheshire, alongside Wilmslow, Congleton and Northwich. It is about 32 miles east of Chester.
For semi-detached and terraced homes in Macclesfield, cavity barriers are fitted where your wall meets your neighbour's so the fill stays on your side. If a wall in Macclesfield is not suitable, for example because of an undiagnosed damp patch or a very exposed gable, you are told so in writing with the reason.
Exposure matters for every cavity wall. Cheshire has a mix of moderate and more exposed sites. Hilltop, coastal and west-facing walls take the brunt of wind-driven rain, so the survey records exposure for each elevation before a material is chosen.
In terms of approvals, in Macclesfield filling a cavity is notifiable building work and needs a building notice or competent-person self-certification.

Why a party wall loses heat
Many semi-detached and terraced homes built with cavity separating walls have that cavity open to the loft. Air moves up the cavity and out at the top, a loss sometimes called the party wall bypass. Filling the cavity and sealing the top stops it.
