Repointing and pre-insulation repairs across Lothian

Every elevation is judged on its own exposure. Lothian has a mix of moderate and more exposed sites. Hilltop, coastal and west-facing walls take the brunt of wind-driven rain, so the survey records exposure for each elevation before a material is chosen.
If your Lothian installation has a guarantee, we check it first; the guarantee route may cover the work. Where a Lothian wall does need work, bricks are lifted and rebuilt in matching mortar, and the cavity is checked with a camera before it is closed up.
Building standards in Scotland
In Scotland, work associated with thermal insulating material within a wall is listed in schedule 3 of the Building (Scotland) Regulations as work that does not need a building warrant. It must still meet the building standards, so the survey still checks that the wall and the chosen material are suitable, including exposure to wind-driven rain.

Energy Saving Trust advice is to fix brickwork, pointing, roofs, gutters and downpipes before filling. A filled cavity is less forgiving of a wet outer leaf than an empty one, so we price repairs separately and you choose who carries them out.
