Existing insulation and guarantee check across Herefordshire
We cover 4 towns in Herefordshire: Hereford, Leominster, Ross-on-Wye and Ledbury.
Every elevation is judged on its own exposure. Herefordshire has a mix of moderate and more exposed sites. Hilltop, coastal and west-facing walls take the brunt of wind-driven rain, so the survey records exposure for each elevation before a material is chosen.
Buyers and sellers in Herefordshire often book this check when a survey report or EPC raises questions about the walls. Every inspection point in Herefordshire is photographed and logged, so you have a record to show a buyer, lender or contractor.
Building Regulations in England
Filling an existing cavity wall is notifiable building work in England. Either a building notice goes to building control before the work, or the installer self-certifies it through a government-approved competent person scheme such as CIGA's CWISC scheme. The insulation used must also be suitable for the wall it goes into, which is why the survey checks construction, condition and exposure first.

How to tell if a house already has cavity insulation
Look for a regular pattern of small patched holes in the mortar joints, often about a metre apart. Check the EPC, which may say 'filled cavity'. Ask the seller for a guarantee. The reliable answer is a borescope check, because patched holes can be from a fill that was later removed and EPCs are sometimes wrong.
