Existing insulation and guarantee check for Castle Douglas properties
Our Dumfries and Galloway coverage takes in Castle Douglas (DG7) and nearby Dumfries, Annan and Stranraer. It is around 17 miles south-west of Dumfries.
The written result for your Castle Douglas property is plain English: what we found, what it means and what, if anything, to do next. Where a Castle Douglas wall shows cold patches or damp, the survey targets those areas first rather than sampling at random.
Local weather affects which walls can be filled. Parts of Dumfries and Galloway face some of the heaviest wind-driven rain in the UK, especially exposed coastal and upland sites. Here the survey is stricter: some walls suit only certain certified systems, and some should not be filled at all.
On compliance, if cavity wall insulation follows in Castle Douglas, no building warrant is needed for insulation within a wall, but the work must meet the building standards.
Rules in Scotland
No building warrant is needed for insulation within a wall, but the work must meet the building standards if insulation work follows.
Sources: Scottish Government: building work not requiring a warrant (schedule 3).
Tracing a guarantee
Many cavity fills carry a 25-year guarantee from the Cavity Insulation Guarantee Agency (CIGA). CIGA can confirm whether a property is covered and can issue a duplicate guarantee for a fee; at the time of writing that fee is £60 including VAT, and proof of ownership is required.
