Existing insulation and guarantee check across Cumbria
We cover 6 towns in Cumbria, including Carlisle, Barrow in Furness, Kendal, Whitehaven, Workington and more.
Local weather affects which walls can be filled. Parts of Cumbria face some of the heaviest wind-driven rain in the UK, especially exposed coastal and upland sites. Here the survey is stricter: some walls suit only certain certified systems, and some should not be filled at all.
A survey in Cumbria gives you facts before anyone drills: what the wall is, what is in the cavity and whether it is sound. Every inspection point in Cumbria is photographed and logged, so you have a record to show a buyer, lender or contractor.
Building Regulations in England
Filling an existing cavity wall is notifiable building work in England. Either a building notice goes to building control before the work, or the installer self-certifies it through a government-approved competent person scheme such as CIGA's CWISC scheme. The insulation used must also be suitable for the wall it goes into, which is why the survey checks construction, condition and exposure first.

How to tell if a house already has cavity insulation
Look for a regular pattern of small patched holes in the mortar joints, often about a metre apart. Check the EPC, which may say 'filled cavity'. Ask the seller for a guarantee. The reliable answer is a borescope check, because patched holes can be from a fill that was later removed and EPCs are sometimes wrong.
