Damp investigation after cavity insulation across the Forth Valley
We cover 4 towns in the Forth Valley: Stirling, Falkirk, Alloa and Grangemouth.
Exposure matters for every cavity wall. The Forth Valley has a mix of moderate and more exposed sites. Hilltop, coastal and west-facing walls take the brunt of wind-driven rain, so the survey records exposure for each elevation before a material is chosen.
Where a Forth Valley wall does need work, bricks are lifted and rebuilt in matching mortar, and the cavity is checked with a camera before it is closed up. Damp in an insulated Forth Valley home is not always the insulation's fault, so the diagnosis comes before any extraction.
Building standards in Scotland
In Scotland, work associated with thermal insulating material within a wall is listed in schedule 3 of the Building (Scotland) Regulations as work that does not need a building warrant. It must still meet the building standards, so the survey still checks that the wall and the chosen material are suitable, including exposure to wind-driven rain.

Common causes we check
Defective pointing, cracked render and porous bricks letting rain in; leaking gutters and downpipes; fill bridging the cavity where mortar droppings or debris have collected; ground levels above the damp-proof course; and condensation from cooking, drying clothes and too little ventilation.
