Cavity wall suitability survey for Newton Abbot properties
Newton Abbot is among the towns we cover in Devon, alongside Torquay, Paignton and Exmouth. It is about 14 miles south of Exeter.
The written result for your Newton Abbot property is plain English: what we found, what it means and what, if anything, to do next. Buyers and sellers in Newton Abbot often book this check when a survey report or EPC raises questions about the walls.
Local weather affects which walls can be filled. Parts of Devon face some of the heaviest wind-driven rain in the UK, especially exposed coastal and upland sites. Here the survey is stricter: some walls suit only certain certified systems, and some should not be filled at all.
In terms of approvals, in Newton Abbot filling a cavity is notifiable building work and needs a building notice or competent-person self-certification.
Rules in England
Filling a cavity is notifiable building work and needs a building notice or competent-person self-certification if insulation work follows.

What the surveyor checks
Wall construction and thickness at window reveals; cavity width and debris with a borescope; brickwork, pointing, render, sills, gutters and downpipes; signs of damp inside and out; air bricks and flues; joins with neighbours and extensions; and the exposure of each elevation to wind-driven rain.
