Cavity wall insulation for Stalybridge properties
Our Greater Manchester coverage takes in Stalybridge (SK15) and nearby Dukinfield, Ashton-under-Lyne and Hyde. It is about 7 miles east of Manchester.
Where a Stalybridge property has an extension or a conservatory, we check how the old and new walls meet, because that junction is often missed. Most Stalybridge houses built from the 1920s onwards have cavity walls, but the survey still checks each one: cavity width, debris, the condition of the brickwork and how exposed each wall is.
Before any material is chosen, exposure is checked. Greater Manchester has a mix of moderate and more exposed sites. Hilltop, coastal and west-facing walls take the brunt of wind-driven rain, so the survey records exposure for each elevation before a material is chosen.
On the rules side, in Stalybridge filling a cavity is notifiable building work and needs a building notice or competent-person self-certification.

Is my wall suitable for cavity wall insulation?
Most homes built from the 1920s onwards have cavity walls, but having a cavity is not the same as being suitable. The Energy Saving Trust's rule of thumb is a cavity of at least 50mm, clear of rubble, behind masonry in good condition, on a wall that is not exposed to severe driving rain or flood risk.
