Cavity wall insulation for March properties

March sits in Cambridgeshire, roughly 24 miles north of Cambridge. We work across the PE15 district, including nearby Wisbech, Ely and Peterborough.

If a wall in March is not suitable, for example because of an undiagnosed damp patch or a very exposed gable, you are told so in writing with the reason. A suitable wall in March is usually filled in a single day from outside, with drill holes made good to match the pointing.

Every elevation is judged on its own exposure. Much of Cambridgeshire sits in the more sheltered driving-rain zones of the UK, which widens the choice of fill. Exposed elevations, coastal sites and high ground still get checked wall by wall.

In terms of approvals, in March filling a cavity is notifiable building work and needs a building notice or competent-person self-certification.

Funding in England

In England, ECO4 runs to 31 December 2026 and Warm Homes: Local Grant supports low-income households through councils.

Is my wall suitable for cavity wall insulation?

Most homes built from the 1920s onwards have cavity walls, but having a cavity is not the same as being suitable. The Energy Saving Trust's rule of thumb is a cavity of at least 50mm, clear of rubble, behind masonry in good condition, on a wall that is not exposed to severe driving rain or flood risk.

What is included in March

  • Certified mineral wool or bonded bead system
  • Building regulations route for your nation, confirmed in writing
