Cavity insulation top-up in Lancashire

A cavity top-up fills voids left by an older installation: missed panels around windows, settled fibre, areas disturbed by an extension or new window. Our Lancashire coverage includes Preston, Burnley, Blackburn and the towns around them.

Cavity insulation top-up across Lancashire

We cover 18 towns in Lancashire, including Preston, Burnley, Blackburn, Blackpool, Morecambe and more.

Every elevation is judged on its own exposure. Parts of Lancashire face some of the heaviest wind-driven rain in the UK, especially exposed coastal and upland sites. Here the survey is stricter: some walls suit only certain certified systems, and some should not be filled at all.

Where a Lancashire property has an extension or a conservatory, we check how the old and new walls meet, because that junction is often missed. Most Lancashire houses built from the 1920s onwards have cavity walls, but the survey still checks each one: cavity width, debris, the condition of the brickwork and how exposed each wall is.

Building Regulations in England

Filling an existing cavity wall is notifiable building work in England. Either a building notice goes to building control before the work, or the installer self-certifies it through a government-approved competent person scheme such as CIGA's CWISC scheme. The insulation used must also be suitable for the wall it goes into, which is why the survey checks construction, condition and exposure first.

Funding in England

  • ECO4, the energy-supplier scheme, has been extended to 31 December 2026 and government has said there will be no successor supplier obligation.
  • The Great British Insulation Scheme closed as planned on 31 March 2026.
  • Warm Homes: Local Grant supports low-income households in England through councils, and the January 2026 Warm Homes Plan sets out fully funded upgrades for low-income homes, with more detail still being published.

How do I know if my walls need a top-up?

Cold patches on internal walls, a thermal image showing uneven heat loss, or an EPC that says 'filled cavity' when parts of the house feel colder are all signs. Extensions are a common cause: the new wall is insulated as built, but the old wall it joins may have been left partly empty.
